Welcome to the World, Wiley!

He's here!!!

On Wednesday, November 28th, at 4:02pm, little (err, sorta big, actually: 8 lb, 9 0z, and 21.5 inches long) Wiley Louis Hormel arrived at St. Mary's Hospital (L&D Rm #6, to be exact), much to the delight of his mother and I. We're so thankful for this blessing!!!

Wiley didn't cause too many difficulties along the way. Ashley had some contractions on Tuesday, from about 4:45am - 9am, 20 - 40 min. apart. They started up again around 11am, and continued through the day. By the time we sat down to dinner (thanks, Elizabeth!), they were anywhere from 4 - 10 minutes apart. This continued throughout the night, including our outing to Wal-mart; where else can you go at 9:30 at night to walk around?
By 1am, they were strong enough to keep mom-to-be from sleeping. We got out of bed around 4:45am, and headed to the hospital at 6:30. Ashley was scheduled to be induced at 7am, which turned out to be a good thing: we had the last room in Labor and Delivery reserved! By this point, her contractions were about 5 minutes apart.

At 9:15, the doctor came in and checked Ashley... she was 6 cm! The doc broke her water, and the contractions became longer, stronger, and closer together. They were very painful and intense (or so I hear), and at 11am, when she was at 8cm, we asked for an epidural. Things calmed down for a bit after she received the epidural (around 11:45), and we actually had to watch the monitor to tell when all but the strongest contractions were coming.
Oddly enough, we were a little bored from noon until 3pm. We passed the time reading and watching cable tv. (We couldn't find any Law & Order, so we settled for Crossing Jordan). During this time, the nurse said Ashley was at 10cm.
At 3:15pm, the doctor returned, checked Ashley, and said she was ready to push. But 3:30, she had started pushing. About 30 minutes and 7 contractions later, Spam Nugget officially became Wiley Louis Hormel. I was allowed to announce the gender and cut the cord, and we were able to spend almost 40 minutes with Wiley before he was taken to the nursery for a check-up, shots, etc. Omi and Papa Miller visited with him for a few minutes, too.
We're home from the hospital, now (our stay there was a story in itself), and very excited to be learning the ropes of parenting! I'm quite proud to say that my son has already peed on me (through his diaper) and puked on his mom and I. Willow hasn't been hit yet, though I'm sure she'll get her chance soon.
